What is the best-concealed carry pistol - Walther CCP - V part

Walther CCP

When mentioning brand Walther, for most people the first association is an elegant and reliable pocket pistol entirely convenient to James Bond. The new CCP pistol with Walther SOFTCOIL technology directly fits the Bond criteria: It's cool, smooth, fast, and accurate. In case you're wondering, the "CCP" is an abbreviation for "Concealed Carry Pistol." The CCP innovative design reveals an amalgamation of old and new technology, with a PPK-style fixed barrel and a gas-piston delayed blowback system found on Heckler & Koch P7. This is not a common design but, unlike any previous Walther models using some variation of the delayed blowback recoil system, the CCP combines an innovative gas-piston technology acting as a secondary recoil system.

The gas-delayed blowback system doesn’t require a recoil spring as strong as a traditional tilting-barrel system but allows the CCP to utilize a light, single, large recoil spring, which in turn provides soft recoil and easy slide manipulation. Actually, Walther claims that their Soft-Coil recoil system reduces muzzle rise by one-third, allowing faster sight acquisition and more manageable control of the pistol.

The CCP is made specifically for concealed carry and has a distinct look of modern Walther handguns, seeming like miniaturized PPQ. In comparison with 9mm sub-compacts from big-name firearms manufacturers such as Ruger’s LC9 and S&W M&P Shield, the CCP is larger than both of them, but it feels like a downsized duty gun. However, due to its regular proportions, 6.4×5.1×1.2 inches, the Walther CCP is one of the more comfortable pistols to carry and shoot.

By the external appearance, CCP looks like a well-contoured version of most polymer-framed pistols. The CCP`s steel slide has the aggressive serrations front and back and is offered in two versions: one with a black Cerakoted Stainless slide and the other with a matte stainless slide. The second one is our favorite in according with a psychological aspect that compact carry guns should be as visible as possible so attackers can see you have a lethal gun in your hand.

Obviously, the CCP is not a subcompact and, as noted before, it is slightly taller than even a Glock 19, and it`s wider than many single stack compacts. On the other hand, the polymer frame with a single finger groove features Walther's signature textured grip offering a full hand's accommodation and one of the most comfortable designs in its class. Furthermore, with a carry weight of only 22.2 ounces, the 3.54-inch barrel, and a single stack magazine of 8+1 capacity, the Walther CCP is a bit more concealable than a similarly sized double stack model.

Walther CCP vs PPS

Unlike many modern handguns, the CCP has a frame mounted manual safety; in a position familiar to 1911 owners- at the left rear of the frame. The CCP has an internal striker safety as well with broad and flat polymer trigger of a smooth, light trigger pull of 5.5 pounds. The Walther is equipped with three-dot polymer sights, which rear sights are adjustable for windage while the manufacturer provides two spare front sights of different heights.

Compared to the average pistol, the 9mm Walther CCP is 17% shorter in overall length, but at the same time, it is small enough to conceal yet large enough to handle full-power cartridges. While larger than many subcompacts, the Walther CCP will likely not be the most appropriate single stack pistol concealable gun permit owner can find.

Finally, as quite inexpensive for a Walther, the CCP is a solid performer pretty close to the spec of full-powered concealed-carry pistol for the majority of people.
