Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 ACP

The popular craze for compact and concealed carry handguns create a whole bunch of newbies in very complicated and overwhelming world of firearms. Most of them will gravitate toward a cheap and polymer guns of some sort, whereas the genuine connoisseurs would rely on the time proven 1911 platform chambered for the legendary .45ACP cartridge, known for its tremendous stopping power. Among those aficionados, 1911 is very sought-after style of handgun when choosing a concealed carry firearm, and Kimber`s neat little sub-compacts are reasonable choice.

One of many companies that make handguns where much of the styling is influenced by the classic 1911 is Kimber Manufacturing with it's a classy looking pistol. As the most prolific and diverse manufacturer of M1911-type guns they released in 2001 the Ultra Carry II, a small and compact model, evidently designed for concealed carry.

For EDC gun the weight factor is important, and this is a serious issue with any concealed carry weapon. Hence the high-end 1911 from Kimber has the original body machined from aluminum alloy with a Matte Black finish and the slide made from stainless steel.

Although the Ultra Carry has over three-quarters of a pound less weight than a full size 1911, at a weight of 25 ounces empty, the pistol certainly doesn’t belong to paperweight pocket guns. On the other hand, some shooters usually have a bias against bigger caliber weapons in smaller size frames, but with extremely manageable recoil the Kimber Ultra Carry II is completely controllable in the fast shooting sequences.

Obviously, the size matters in a concealed carry pistol so the overall measures of this pistol are 6.8 inches in length, 4.75 inches high and 1.28 inches wide. The Kimber`s compact .45 features three inches long, match grade bull barrel fitted directly to the slide.

This slim little 1911 holds a 7-round single stack magazine and has a trigger made of match grade aluminum with crisp and consistently light trigger pull for shooting accuracy.

Equipped with low-profile non-adjustable iron sights the Ultra Carry II enables speed sight picture recovery between shots. Aside from reduced dimensions and light weight this compact 1911 features recognizable extended beavertail grip safety and single sided thumb safety as a full-size 1911.

With a tight fit, rounded and blended edges to avoid snagging the Kimber Ultra Carry II .45 is made for concealed carry needs, but it is also a reliable and hard-hitting gun. Unlike Kel-Tec or Ruger`s ultra-compacts, Kimber is at the other end of the price spectrum making a potent combination of light and concealable pistol but, yet still chambered for a major caliber round.
