What is the best-concealed carry pistol - Ruger SR9c - I part

Ruger SR9C

After introducing famous SR9 and SR40 (SR stands for Sturm and Ruger) full-size pistols back in 2007, the Ruger Company released SR9c and SR40c handguns with the abbreviated frames. The Ruger, only full-line manufacturer of American-Made firearms, now has three pistols all built on the same basic platform.  The company has announced the release of the 9mm SR9c compact in January 2010, heavily based on its bigger cousin, the SR9. Though it is a bit larger than the other small frame weapons, the SR9c at an overall length of 6.85″, a height of 4.61", and weight just a tad under 24 oz. is still very light and easily concealed.

As mentioned earlier, the Ruger SR9c is one of the several firearms in the SR series and just like its big brothers are very comfortable to hold since the width of the grip frame is less than an inch thick and that is quite a feat for a double stack magazine pistol. The SR9c is a striker-fired, compact, double-stack design with a magazine capacity of 17 rounds of 9mm, which is one of the highest capacity weapons in concealed carry category. In fact, the pistol comes out with two magazines; 10-round and 17-round and in the three possible magazine/grip configurations. Those quality magazines offering the ability to be a compact pistol (10+1) or full-size grip (17+1) are manufactured in Italy by renowned company Mec-Gar.

In essence, this every day carry a gun have merged the best of both worlds - compact size and extended grip capabilities. As one of the thinnest double-stack handguns available the SR9c is offering with brushed stainless steel or black nitride alloy-steel slides. Both variants have a black glass-filled nylon grip with a subtle checkered texture and fine grooves at the front and back. The SR9c also includes a reversible checkered rubber backstrap allowing it to be adjusted to fit smaller hands and providing more arch to the back of the grip if desired. Additionally, this 3.50" barreled pistol sports convenient front Picatinny rail for accessories such as laser sights or tactical lights. The rail is integrally molded into the dust cover of the frame and measures 0.85" with a single slot. Just like its predecessor, full-sized SR9, the Ruger SR9c is loaded with modern safety details like a 1911-style ambidextrous manual safety, striker blocker, and trigger safety, magazine disconnect safety, and loaded chamber indicator visible in the shape of a triangular pennant. The adjustable high visibility sights are low profile and have the usual three dots for easier sight alignment.

Compact Ruger SR9c vs. Ruger SR9

The trigger on this gun compete to the Glock easily, by some gun writers is on par with the Smith and Wesson M&P series of firearms, and even comes close to the top of the class- the Walther PPQ. It has the iconic trigger safety, Glock-like "trigger within the trigger," featured on nearly every major brand of polymer pistol these days. The average trigger pulls measured at 7 pounds 3.5 ounces is a much better trigger pull than its bigger brother. The muzzle rise is reduced due to a low slide profile while the recoil is negligible.

Definitely concealable with the 10 round magazine, the Ruger SR9c is a comfortable, relatively small, accurate, attractive, reliable, soft shooting, well-designed handgun with a great trigger. Undoubtedly, the Ruger SR9c belongs to the "great value" category and represents one of the best values in a pistol for EDC or home defense.
